Gasoline prices in North Carolina have reached their lowest point for this time of year since 2021, with the current average sitting at $3.001 per gallon.

A soft demand, high production levels, and stable oil prices have contributed to this dip, with analysts predicting prices could drop to $3 or lower by the end of 2024.

Currently, 10 states are seeing averages below $3 per gallon, with many gas stations in the eastern U.S. offering similarly low prices AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said in a statement Thursday.

Meteorologists had predicted a busy hurricane season, but the lack of storms impacting gas production has kept prices stable.

In North Carolina, the most expensive gas can be found in Durham-Chapel Hill at $3.222 per gallon, while Goldsboro and New Bern boast some of the cheapest prices, averaging $2.857 and $2.814, respectively. Diesel prices have also dropped, now averaging $3.571 across the state.

Nationally, the states with the highest gas prices are California ($4.734) and Hawaii ($4.647), while Mississippi enjoys the cheapest gas at $2.777 per gallon. As fall approaches, North Carolina drivers may enjoy even further savings at the pump.
