Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables goes vague on the update of their most missed player

The Oklahoma Sooners put together a completely different offensive line this offseason than the one they had last year. And, sure, maybe that has to do with some of the inconsistencies there, but injuries have certainly played a part as well.

Week 1 was awesome when you look at how dominant the Sooners beat up the Temple Owls. Mostly, it was the defense and special teams, who worked together to put the Owls in bad field position while also turning over the ball. But the offense, even with 51 points still wasn't great, and we saw that carried over into Week 2 against the Houston Cougars, where the Sooners scored 16 points, the lowest against an unranked non-conference opponent since 2005.

Week 1 is where all of the injuries occurred, though. Of course, there is the broken foot for Jalil Farooq , and then Branson Hickman, who was injured very early on in the game. Farooq is out for 6-8 weeks while Hickman's time for return is unknown.

    Even Brent Venables doesn't know.

“I’m not being evasive; I don’t know… We could really use a guy who’s got 35 starts in his career. He’s closer. I know that’s not a popular answer," Venables said on Tuesday. “Bill Bedenbaugh knows better than anybody. Nobody wants to hear that you’re on your fourth center. It is what it is.”

The Sooners are struggling on offense very badly. Injuries are a huge factor , and that ties into the way the offensive line is playing, too, as there are backups all over the line, and ultimately, that mightily affect execution.

Hopefully, the Sooners can get Hickman back before they play their first SEC game against the Tennessee Volunteers , who have a pretty decent defense and can make some noise in that game. The Sooners will need some help, and the offensive line right now is greatly missing Hickman.
