The 2024 NFL season got off to a rough start for the Arizona Cardinals . The team struggled on both sides of the ball, with their special teams unit and return man DeeJay Dallas being one of the few bright spots on the team. The offense struggled to get going all day Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. New top wide receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr. was targeted only three times all day, ending his NFL debut with just one catch for four yards.

Quarterback Kyler Murray struggled as well, throwing for just 162 yards and one touchdown on the day, while also serving as the team’s leading rusher with 52 yards on the ground. It was a disappointing day for a unit that was supposed to be much improved this season. On the other side, it was more of the same for the Cardinals’ defense. The defense gave up 34 points to the explosive Buffalo Bills offense in a 34-28 loss.

Quarterback Josh Allen accounted for four of the Bills’ scores, throwing for 232 yards and two touchdowns, and adding another 39 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. It’s likely that Week 1 was more or less an aberration for the Cardinals’ offense and that they’ll get it together as the season goes on. The defense, however, is another story. That was an area of concern heading into the season, and one that will likely be of concern throughout. A particular area of concern is the team’s lack of depth in the defensive backfield.

That lack of depth, along with a lack of versatility, has Bleacher Report NFL analyst Matt Holder urging the team to reach out to former Super Bowl champion cornerback Bradley Roby . Roby won a Super Bowl during his 5-year stint with the Denver Broncos before spending time with the Houston Texans , New Orleans Saints , and nine games last season with the Philadelphia Eagles .

Roby isn’t the caliber player he used to be, but he can still add value to the Cardinals defensive backfield. Particularly in his experience playing both outside and in the slot. The Cardinals need more competent bodies in the defensive backfield, and that’s something the 32-year-old corner can provide. He wouldn’t likely push for a starting position, especially coming in mid-season, but he would provide the Cardinals with some quality depth in sub packages.
