DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman was arrested on Monday for allegedly neglecting her dog to the point of emaciation.

According to court documents, in early August Animal Services Officers were contacted by a Des Moines area animal hospital after an adult male dog named Thor was presented to vet staff covered in urine and vomit, and appeared to show signs of chronic neglect, court documents state.

A veterinarian reported that Thor had a score of 5-Emaciated based on the Tufts Animal Care and Condition Scale.

Thor’s owner was determined to be 22-year-old Brookelyn Crone. A Polk County Judge granted a petition that transferred the ownership of Thor to the Animal Rescue of Iowa on August 30. According to court documents, since being in the ARL’s care Thor has gained about 17 lbs. The petition also bars Crone from adopting Thor.

Crone has been charged with animal neglect with injury. She was booked into the Polk County Jail but has since been released.

C"mon Iowa do better for animal rights!! You are failing in every aspect fro torture and abuse on factory farms to leniency on these domestic animal abuse being given a slap on the wrist. Should be a felony and significant jail time. Same for the puppy mills. Why is it so hard for the state of Iowa to enact changes like this?
