I had dengue twice while living in Costa Rica. To the above naysayers, it’s no joke, believe me. Its onset is instantaneous, it’s called break bone fever because that’s what you feel like every bone in your body feels broken. Fortunately, Costa Rica has superior health care and I was diagnosed immediately. The MD came to my home everyday took blood samples to the lab, because dengue causes your blood to thicken and become sticky. Even after my blood samples tested normal I had a relapse when returning to normal activity. It is not transmissible person to person, it is mosquito borne.
