WINCHESTER, VA - A $50,000 Powerball prize from the March 16 drawing is in jeopardy of going unclaimed, and time is running out for the lucky winner to come forward.

According to a press release issued by the Virginia Lottery on September 5, 2024, the ticket, which was purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 10520 James Madison Parkway, matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number from that drawing.

The winning numbers were 12-23-44-57-61, with the Powerball number being 5.

According to the Virginia Lottery, prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. The deadline for this ticket is swiftly approaching, with the prize expiring at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12.

If the ticket remains unclaimed, the $50,000 will be transferred to Virginia’s Literary Fund. This fund supports low-interest loans for public school construction, renovations, and technology improvements across the state.

The Virginia Lottery urges anyone who believes they have this winning ticket to come forward immediately. The ticket can be redeemed at any of the Lottery’s eight customer service centers throughout Virginia.

In the last fiscal year, King George County benefited from over $2.3 million in Lottery funds dedicated to K-12 education.

For Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery contributed more than $934 million towards Virginia’s K-12 education, representing roughly 10% of the state's total school budget, according to the Virginia Lottery.

For more information on claiming prizes or to learn about the Lottery’s impact on education, visit the Virginia Lottery’s website, or connect on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Remember to play responsibly.
