Many of us have at least one cup of coffee a day. And whether it's hot or iced coffee, it's fun to keep things interesting by mixing up your morning joe a bit. We've recently tried a popular Brazilian coffee drink , added a fudge pop (so good!), tried our coffee with some vanilla extract (also very good) and even blended up a freeway frappe .

But our coffee adventures aren't over just yet. We recently saw Japanese jelly coffee pop up on our social media feeds and were instantly intrigued.

    What Is Japanese Coffee Jelly?

Japanese jelly coffee is a popular dessert in Japan that consists of coffee-flavored gelatin cut into cubes and typically served in a glass or bowl. The coffee jelly is made by mixing brewed coffee with gelatin and allowing it to set until it's firm.

Once set, the jelly is cut into bite-sized cubes and can be served with various toppings, such as whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk or even ice cream . Some people prefer eating it with a spoon, while others serve it in drinks. Japanese jelly coffee has a robust coffee flavor, but it's balanced with the sweetness of the toppings, making it a fun and customizable treat.

It's also easy to make at home. We've seen a few variations going around, but content creator @that40yearguy recently gave it a try and we were shocked by how simple it seemed.

How Do You Make Japanese Coffee Jelly?

In his TikTok video, he says to make this you need to add two cups of boiling water and two tablespoons of instant coffee to a bowl. Other recipes use freshly brewed regular coffee, but as long as it's hot coffee, it'll work. Next, you add one cup of cold water, some brown sugar, and two teaspoons of unflavored gelatin. Mix it all together and pour it into a cup, then place it in the refrigerator for a few hours until it's set.

Once it's ready, you can add whipped cream, caramel syrup, chocolate syrup or whatever else you want to sweeten it up. Then, you eat the coffee with a spoon.

In the comments of this TikTok video, several people said they often had Japanese Jelly Coffee when living or vacationing in Japan, and it was a treat they loved. Others said they can't get past the texture, but if you like Jello and coffee, this is definitely one treat you have to try!
