Nick Wright Labels NFL Transaction as 'Worst' in League History

Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright appeared on " The Herd " with Colin Cowherd and didn't hold back when discussing what he considers the "worst" transaction in NFL history.

In July 2022, the Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers after selecting him first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

In March, just a few months before, the Browns had acquired former Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and signed him to a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed deal. At the time, many saw it as a daring but rightful move.

However, as the 2024-25 NFL season kicks off, the views on both Mayfield, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , and Watson have shifted dramatically, and Wright made a bold declaration on the Browns deal with Watson on Tuesday.

"This is, without a question, the worst transaction in NFL history." Wright said.

Mayfield, coming off a playoff win in 2023, is thriving as the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Watson has struggled in every aspect of his tenure with the Browns so far.

In Week 1, he went 0-for-10 on passes that traveled 15 or more air yards, marking the worst performance in this category since air yards tracking began in 2006.

Now entering his third season with the Browns, Watson has thrown 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over 13 games. In his first two seasons with Cleveland, he hasn’t exceeded an 85.0 passer rating.

If Watson cannot turn his performance around with the Browns in the coming weeks, discussions will intensify about whether they should consider replacing him, especially with nearly three years remaining on his contract.

Browns personnel moves are a separate category. there's the worst moves in the history of the league, and then there's Browns moves. anybody who isn't an idiot knew the two trades and the contract were as stupid as stupid gets. so of course the Browns thought it was a good idea
