Theory #1: Billy Butcher Kills Homelander
The second most likely of the three theories, this one predicts that the series will end in an epic battle between Homelander and Billy Butcher, a confrontation set up at the end of Season 4. After Butcher surprisingly kills Victoria Neuman, he sets off on his own with powers like he's never had before. While it was unclear for a while whether Butcher would even make it to Season 5, he’ll return to the action stronger than ever.
Season 4 also ended in a massive victory for Homelander and the rest of his "supes." They will undoubtedly hold the upper hand starting next season. With their entire team getting split up in the Season 4 finale, the Boys will have a hard path back. Along with Sister Sage, Homelander seems to be in control of everything in the United States and the world is under new leadership. With the Boys being held captive, the possibility of Butcher taking on Homelander by himself is more likely. It is expected that there will be a huge fight featuring everyone on both sides and the result could very end in Butcher finally completing the job.
Though other characters such as A-Train, Soldier-Boy, and even Homelander’s son Ryan could potentially be the ones to kill Homelander, Butcher is the favorite to get it done. Since Butcher's anger has been building up since the day his wife Becca disappeared for unspeakable reasons, a fight between him and Homelander makes perfect sense and would excite many viewers.
Theory #2: Ryan Kills Homelander
Though this is the least likely of the three scenarios, Ryan could potentially be the one to end the conflict. If this theory comes true, Ryan vs Homelander could potentially join the likes of Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader as one of the best father-son fights of all time. Season 4 ended with Ryan running away from everyone and everything and his opinions of his father changing drastically. It is unclear which side he will be on when he returns, but either way he is a threat to Homelander.
With the Boys in captivity, there will likely be a time skip to start the last season as all signs point to one happening. As Ryan is around 12 to 15 years old in Season 4, the passage of time will allow him to become older, stronger, and smarter while also making Homelander older and weaker. Homelander has already shown signs of aging that could affect his abilities, and with the soft spot he has for his son, he could enter this match much weaker than before. Homelander's weakened position in a matchup with Ryan makes this theory more believable since Homelander currently appears to be unstoppable.
While Ryan has previously never been a real threat to anyone on purpose, the changes that are happening in the world around him could spark changes inside him as well. He could very well end up joining forces with his father and ruling out this theory entirely, but either way his decision will impact the end result immensely.
Theory #3: The Boys/Gen V Kill Homelander
The most likely theory involves a more group-based effort to taking down the supes. As both The Boys Season 4 and Gen V basically ended the same, we may see a crossover team-up between characters. Since Sam and Cate from Gen V have already joined forces with Homelander, Gen V’s other characters will likely join the Boys' side.
The Boys team currently features Starlight, Mother's Milk, Hughie, Frenchie, and Kimiko. Though Frenchie was hypnotized by Cate in the Season 4 finale, these five are expected to return as a unit in Season 5. Other characters like Queen Maeve and A-Train may join forces with the team, but that's about it for potential reinforcements from The Boys. From Gen V, Marie, Jordan Li, Andre, and Emma will likely band together with the Boys in their fight against the supes. This would build a team that could ultimately stand a fighting chance against Homelander's army.
With a team that finally stands a chance at success, the Boys would be all set to face off against the supes. There have been fan theories and comic strips suggesting that the ultimate battle will take place at the White House. The theory also ends with Butcher once again leading the Boys into battle in a clash for the ages. The fight would have the potential to rival the ending of Avengers: Endgame as one of the best battles in the history of fiction.
