Predicting Jeremy Sochan's Statline in Year Three With the San Antonio Spurs

    By Jonah Kubicek,

There is a very clear hierarchy on the San Antonio Spurs. Veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes were brought in to play a complementary role and get the most out of the young players. Victor Wembanyama remains the most important player in San Antonio, and Devin Vassell, who blossomed as the second option last season, holds his place. Jeremy Sochan, one of the defensive engines, is not a threat on offense to enter "elite" territory, but his defense keeps him on the floor.

However, after a productive summer with the Polish National Team, Sochan is poised to take a leap, especially on the offensive end of the floor. Last season, he averaged 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. This season, expect to see some growth.

Sochan took 3.1 threes per game last season and made only 30.8 percent of them. While we here at Inside the Spurs would like to see some growth, expecting him to be a good shooter is just unrealistic. We expect him to make roughly 34 percent of his shots from deep on a similar volume to last year, as Paul, Vassell, Barnes, and even Wembanyama can all space the floor better than he can.

In terms of points, the expectation is that he will take a leap from 11.6 points per game to closer to 15. All of the benefits Paul brings to Wembanyama will also rub off on Sochan, and he should get more quality looks thanks to playing with the Point God.

The Spurs will not run the point-Sochan experiment, and with Stephon Castle, Tre Jones, Vassell, and Paul all looking to be playmakers for the Spurs, Sochan's playmaking numbers should regress a little to around 2.7 dimes per night, although his turnovers will also drop a little.

As for rebounds, without Zach Collins in the starting lineup for the first bit of the season and Wembanyama being the only rebounding threat, Sochan will likely see his rebounding numbers improve. With three shooters in the starting five who don't pose a rebounding threat, about 7.5 rebounds per game should be expected.

Going into his third season, fans should expect 15 points, 7.5 rebounds, and just under three assists a night from Sochan on improved, but still not elite, offensive efficiency.
