    'The Logo' to Receive Season-Long Tribute

    Jerry West's death on Jun. 12 shook the NBA to its core. Amid the 2024 NBA Finals, the league was in immediate shocked that "The Logo" was no longer with us.

    West certainly played a pivotal part in the Golden State Warriors dynasty, but of course his name is synonymous with the Los Angeles Lakers. As such, the Lakers have announced they would honor West for the 2024-25 season.

    West played his entire NBA career with the Lakers. During his 14 seasons, the Hall of Fame NBA figure made an All-Star game in every season, 12 All-NBA nods, scoring champion for the 1969-70 team, five-time All-Defensive honors, 1971-72 assist champion, 1971-72 All-Star MVP, one NBA championship, and lastly, holds the one-and-only NBA Finals MVP on the 1968-69 series runner-up.

    West deserves praise from NBA legends, fans, and media members.

    Furthermore, the Lakers realize how imperative West is to the Lakers' all-time success and the NBA at large.

    The Lakers announced Tuesday that, in tribute to West, they will wear a band with West's No. 44 on the left shoulder of their uniforms for the 2024-25 season. In addition to the season-long tribute, the Lakers revealed they're set to give away a free West jersey on opening night.

    West played a significant role in the Lakers' trading for Kobe Bryant's draft rights and signing Shaquille O'Neal as the general manager of the storied NBA franchise.

    West's basketball insight aged gracefully. He understood how to respect the current superstars while maintaining the identity of the league's past legends.
