SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO)– Two people have died after falling into a silage silo Saturday morning near Volga.

The two were working to repair a damaged roof of an 80 foot silo, which was nearly full, according to a post from the Brooking’s County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say for unknown reasons, both became entrapped inside and were believed to have been overtaken by toxic gas.

Both were taken from the silo. Medical personnel determined both died, according to the post.

They were identified as Larry Dalzell, 51 of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Randi Vandekieft, 41 of Warner Robins, Georgia. Both were working for Heartland Tank Inc.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating and Brookings County is working with the agency, Sgt. Kevin Murfield of Brookings County Sheriff’s Office told KELOLAND News.
