Blackhawks Legend Jonathan Toews is Enjoying Life Away from the Ice

Jonathan Toews has had a legendary career in the NHL, but after the 2022-23 season where Toews had 15 goals and 31 points in 53 games, he’s not played in the NHL since.

Jonathan Toews announced after the season ended that he would not be playing in the 2023-2024 Season but he was not officially retiring.

I’d like to announce that I am not fully retiring, but I am taking time away from the game again this season, I cannot deny my love for the game of hockey and still feel the passion for competing at my highest level. However, these last few seasons have been very difficult considering my health challenges.

My focus is to give myself the time and space to fully heal and enjoy life to the fullest once again, Along the way I have met several people who have struggled with health issues pertaining to long COVID, chronic immune response syndrome, and other similar cases that are quite complex. I now recognize the importance of one day sharing the details of my health journey with you all.

Toews seems very happy, which is amazing to see considering all he’s gone through with his health the last few years, but the longer it goes on the less likely it is Toews makes a return to the ice with an NHL Team.

Jonathan Toews signed a 8 year, $84,000,000 contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, including a $44,000,000 signing bonus, $84,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $10,500,000, which expired after his last season in the NHL, Jonathan Toews is going to retire with the Blackhawks but it’s still unknown if he will play in the NHL with another team besides Chicago.

Jonathan Toews Hockey Career

Jonathan Toews was drafted third overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2006 NHL Draft. In 2008, Toews was announced as the Chicago Blackhawks Captain and he served as the Captain from 2008 to 2023. Jonathan Toews has won 3 Stanley Cups, in 2010 the year he won the Conn Smythe, 2013, and 2015, and also has won multiple gold medals including the 2014 Olympic Hockey Gold Medal with Canada which featured players like Sidney Crosby and Carey Price.

Jonathan Toews alongside Blackhawks teammates Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith were named to the NHL’s 100 Greatest Players list they had in 2017. Jonathan Toews has won almost everything in the NHL you can win so makes you wonder if he’ll ever return even if he will always love the game.
