Where Do Chiefs Rank Among Rest of NFL After Week 1?

The Kansas City Chiefs had a strong start to their 2024 season, defeating the Baltimore Ravens, 27-20. Now that the rest of the league has also played, where do the Chiefs rank among the rest of the league based on offensive and defensive statistics?

Offensively, the Chiefs finished Week 1 with 353 total yards, which was the 11th-most yards in the NFL in Week 1 (they ranked ninth in yards in 2023).

Splitting that number up, quarterback Patrick Mahomes finished the night with 281 passing yards, which was the third-most in the league. That performance was a huge reason the team won, as they finished with the fifth-fewest rushing yards in Week 1 with just 72.

On the defensive side of the ball, despite allowing just 20 points (tied for 12th-fewest), the Chiefs defense allowed more yards than any other defense in Week 1. A big reason was due to their rushing defense, which allowed 185 rushing yards in the win.

So, while the Chiefs may have done enough on Thursday to secure the win, they have some work to do, especially when it comes to their run offense and defense. At the same time, though, it is hard to find more formidable opponents in the run game than Baltimore's Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.

So, while it was just Week 1, the Chiefs do have some clear ways they can improve as they get deeper into the season. They will take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
