Charles Barkley Slams The Media For Making Tyreek Hill Arrest About Race: “They Just Did The Same Thing To Scottie Scheffler”

Chuck's never afraid to speak his mind. Charles Barkley , the retired NBA legend and current host of Inside the NBA has made a name for himself in the broadcast world for his unfiltered takes on everything from basketball to politics. And as you would expect, Chuck had opinions on the recent
detention of Tyreek Hill ahead of the Miami Dolphins season opener this past Sunday. In case you somehow missed it, the star wide receiver for the Dolphins was handcuffed after being pulled over just outside of Hard Rock Stadium. According to the tickets that were issued, Hill was reportedly speeding at 60 mph and not wearing his seatbelt. https://twitter.com/JeffDarlington/status/1833583556708471122 Bodycam video released yesterday shows the Hill handing the officer his license and rolling up his window, which set off the officer who then demanded that the wide receiver get out of the car. Officers then pulled Hill from the car and handcuffed him while he was on the ground, then stood up him and moved before another officer came up behind him and grabbed his neck to get him to sit down. Of course the bodycam footage didn't look great, and the Miami-Dade Police Department has already placed one officer on administrative duties as they conduct an internal investigation. After his arrest, there was plenty of conversation about the role that race played in the traffic stop (despite the fact that the police officers involved were Hispanic). But Barkley isn't having it, and blames the media for making race an issue when it shouldn't be. During an interview with Fox Sports 910 radio in Phoenix, Chuck said he was "bothered" by the conversation:
"I hate that we're gonna throw it in the media. Because you know the guy's going to quickly go to race. And it bothers me, because we don't know what happened. We got so many fools in the media that love to play the race card. I was just, 'Wait a minute, they just did the same thing to Scottie Scheffler.'" While Barkley admits he doesn't know all the facts, he makes it clear that he doesn't trust the media to present an unbiased narrative: "I don’t know what happened, but like I say, when we let these fools on TV and radio start talking about it they go straight to, ‘Was it racism?’ I’m like, 'Well wait a minute now, we don’t know that.'... The one thing I hate when we put stuff in the media and we let guys who race bait start throwing stuff out there, like I say, 'Wait a minute, the same thing just happened to Scottie Scheffler, who actually got booked.'"
Leave it to Chuck to always let us know where he stands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaaNMSk5290
