Dog Critical After Saving Family From Deadly Rattlesnake Attack

An English Bulldog named Maverick suffered two instances of snake attack while playing in the backyard of his Southern Arizona home. His owner recounted the event on the canine’s Tiktok account. The snake, later identified as a western diamondback rattlesnake, also didn’t spare Finley, Maverick’s canine sibling. Compared to his brother, Finley’s condition was more stable as it only bit him once on his cheek. Although Maverick sustained fatal injuries, his heroic act saved the lives of his human and fellow pets.

The incident allegedly happened early in the morning when Maverick and Finley were playing in the garden. According to the owner, Maverick had gone through rattlesnake avoidance training. However, he still chose to face the deadly serpent to protect his loved ones. His owner suspected that the rattlesnake made its way into their home through a fence opening.

The owner also shared details about the horrific ordeal in a conversation with Newsweek . Once they understood the situation’s severity, Maverick and Finley were rushed to the nearest vet for emergency medical care within half an hour. Soon after, the vets started them on blood transfusions and antivenom.

While Finley, the Merle Frenchie, showed a positive response after the first round of treatment, Maverick seemed to be struggling. They finally came home after spending one and a half days at the hospital. “Now we are just working on keeping the bite sites from getting infected,” their owner added.

A following Tikktok video , which was posted a week later, shows the canine duo’s slow and steady recovery. Well-wishers and fans have flooded the comments with get well wishes. They were happy that the siblings were no longer in pain and could return home to their loving family to be their old, playful selves.
