Germany's Deniz Undav proudly carried his number 13 jersey out of the Johan Cruyff ArenA as a trophy after scoring on his first international start.

"My partner and daughter will get this as a souvenir of my first international goal," the 28-year-old VfB Stuttgart attacker said after Tuesday's 2-2 draw in the Nations League against the Netherlands.

Undav, wearing a jersey so long donned by Thomas Müller before his international retirement, was beaming after three previous appearances as a substitute.

"I'm really happy. I really wanted to score. I've done it now," he said.

He made it 1-1 in the 38th minute with a technically difficult shot from 10 metres out.

He followed that on the stroke of half-time with an "assist" for captain Joshua Kimmich, although the former Brighton man - who has taken on the mantle of squad joker in the absence of Müller - acknowledged it was a "bum pass."

He said: "I actually wanted to shoot at goal."

Undav was the only new player to come into the team after the 5-0 win in the Nations League opener against Hungary after Niclas Füllkrug was ruled out with an Achilles problem.

"It was an outstanding day for me," added Undav, whose 18 goals helped Stuttgart finish a surprise second in the Bundesliga last term.

He even received praise from renowned tough taskmaster Kimmich.

"My favourite players are the ones who make a claim and back it up when they're called upon. Deniz did that," the captain said.
