Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Michigan's Thumb: Hazardous Driving Conditions Expected

Visibility Reduced to a Quarter Mile or Less in Several Counties

SANDUSKY — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:25 AM on September 11, 2024.

Dense Fog Advisory for Southeast Michigan Until 9 AM

SANDUSKYThe National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for parts of southeast Michigan, including Huron, Sanilac, Lapeer, St. Clair, and Macomb Counties. The advisory is in effect until 9 AM this morning, with visibility expected to drop to a quarter mile or less in some areas, creating hazardous driving conditions for morning commuters.

    Visibility Reductions Impact Key Areas

Drivers in cities such as Sandusky, Warren, Bad Axe, Port Huron, and Lapeer should be prepared for rapidly changing and severely reduced visibility on the roads. The NWS advises motorists to slow down, use headlights (preferably low beams), and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles to avoid accidents. The dense fog is expected to lift by mid-morning, improving travel conditions.

No Further Hazardous Weather Expected for the Week

The fog advisory is the only significant weather concern for the region this week. The NWS does not anticipate any further hazardous weather conditions from Thursday through Tuesday. Residents are still encouraged to stay informed of any changes, as conditions can evolve rapidly.
