Hazy Skies and Warm Temperatures Expected Across Northern Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

Localized Dense Fog This Morning; Potential Rain Over the Weekend

EXELAND — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:36 AM on September 11, 2024.

Hazy Skies and Warm Weather to Persist in the Region

EXELANDResidents in northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will experience hazy skies and unseasonably warm temperatures over the next couple of days. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth, hazy conditions are expected due to wildfire smoke drifting in from the west, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-80s. The current weather pattern is being influenced by a stalled boundary over northern Minnesota, which will persist through the day, accompanied by ridging aloft and dry air.

Localized Dense Fog Advisory for Wednesday Morning

This morning, localized dense fog has been reported in parts of the region, affecting visibility. While the fog is expected to lift by mid-morning, drivers are advised to use caution and allow extra time for their commutes. The NWS does not expect the fog to be a significant threat beyond this morning.

Weekend Weather: Potential Rain and Changing Patterns

Looking ahead to the weekend, there is a 20-30% chance of rain, though the precise details remain uncertain. The NWS highlights that a potential interaction between an upper-level trough over the Intermountain West and a Rex Block pattern over the Great Lakes, influenced by Hurricane Francine, could bring some moisture into the region. There are varied model predictions on whether the trough will weaken or deflect north, but the signal for rain remains consistent. The NWS expects to have a clearer forecast once the weather features move further inland later this evening.
