Above-Average Temperatures Continue for Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania; High Pressure Dominates

Sunny Skies and Warm Days Expected Through the Weekend

CLEVELAND — Issued by the National Weather Service at 3:30 AM on September 11, 2024.

Warm and Dry Conditions to Persist Under High Pressure

CLEVELANDA stretch of warm and dry weather is forecasted to continue for Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania as a strong area of high pressure remains in control. The high, currently centered over West Virginia, will gradually shift towards New England, maintaining mostly clear skies and above-average temperatures across the region.

Today's high temperatures will range from the low 80s in northwest Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio to the mid to upper 80s in northwest Ohio. The warm trend will persist into Thursday, with temperatures expected to rise slightly, reaching the mid-80s in northwest Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio, and climbing to the upper 80s to near 90 degrees in northwest Ohio.

Quiet Conditions Expected into the Weekend

High pressure will continue to dominate the weather pattern through the weekend, keeping conditions dry and quiet. The remnants of Tropical System Francine are projected to move into the Ohio Valley by late Thursday night into Friday. However, due to the presence of dry mid-level air, precipitation chances are expected to be minimal, keeping skies mostly clear and temperatures warm.

Highs on Friday and Saturday will remain in the mid-80s under the influence of an upper-level ridge stretching across much of the eastern United States. This ridge will amplify further into the weekend, extending northward towards Hudson Bay, supporting continued above-average temperatures with highs in the low to mid-80s.

    Aviation and Marine Outlook

VFR conditions are anticipated through Sunday, with mostly clear skies and light variable winds around 5 knots. A light lake breeze could develop this afternoon near Cleveland and Erie, with winds possibly reaching up to 8 knots but expected to subside by evening.

Marine conditions are forecasted to be generally quiet through the weekend with light winds and no marine advisories in effect. A slightly stronger northeast pressure gradient flow, near 15 knots, may develop from Thursday through Sunday afternoons, but winds and waves are expected to remain below Small Craft Advisory criteria.
