PLEASANT HILL, Iowa — A second town in the metro has decided to ditch DART because of costs and ridership.

Beginning in June of 2026 the city of Pleasant Hill will sever all ties with Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART).

The Pleasant Hill City Council voted four to one to end their contract with DART at Tuesday night’s meeting. Council members added that they would need to see an increase in ridership before deciding that it would be worth taxpayers’ money to resume their contract with DART.

Residents spoke out against the change citing the cut would especially impact para-transit services leading to accessibility and mobility issues.

In 2023, Grimes’ city council voted to withdraw from DART services starting in July 2025.
