Angel Reese had made feelings on Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon perfectly clear

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has spoken of her admiration for head coach Teresa Weatherspoon as she praised the "amazing job" she has done in her first year in her post.

After taking up her role at the helm following a stint as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans, she has led the team to playoff contention. The Sky has a 12-22 record at this point in the campaign as they chase the eighth and final post-season slot, with the Atlanta Dream and the Washington Mystics also in the running.

For now, the Chicago players have six games to go - including clashes against both Atlanta and Washington - as they attempt to earn their place in the playoffs, which begin on Sept. 22. However, they will have to make do without the talents of power forward Reese, who has been ruled out until the end of the season after sustaining a wrist injury in the Sky's recent win over the Los Angeles Sparks .

Now, the former LSU college basketball superstar has described her experiences of her maiden WNBA term as she praised the efforts of Weatherspoon. Speaking in glowing terms, she said: "It has been hard because we were ranked 12th in the league so I thought obviously expectations were like low.

"Bare minimum. There was no way other than up, she continued, as she revealed the mood in the locker room when she was drafted earlier in the year. The expectations are high right now and I think its just pressure on not just the rookies and fanbase, but even my coaches."

Providing insight into the job Weatherspoon is doing behind the scene, she said: "I feel bad for T. Spoon sometimes because this is her first year [as our head coach], and I know she has a lot of pressure [regarding] being able to do this. She's been doing an amazing job and they have to realize that you have to trust the process."

"We literally scratched. We had Kahleah Copper last year on the Sky. We had Marina and she got traded. We don't have the team that we had last year. We're in a rebuilding phase and we're still [the] eight [seed] right now. We're going to continue to grow and be better because I want to make the playoffs so bad."

Reese also commented on her season ending prematurely, adding: "What a year. I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next. Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break.

"Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so."
