John Harbaugh outlines new plan for Derrick Henry alongside Lamar Jackson with Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has stated that Derrick Henry will not be their workhorse running back as he has been in the past with the Tennessee Titans .

The Ravens brought in Henry after he left the Titans where he has been one of the better players at the position in the league, but is now approaching the latter stages of his career. Henry had carried the offensive load for the Titans for the past five years, with over 2,000 carries, almost 10,000 yards and 94 touchdowns in his career - with many expected to see him continue to dominate after joining a more potent offense in Baltimore.

But in his first game, he could only manage 46 yards on 13 carries for a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs , with Baltimore utilizing their playmakers including fellow running back Justice Hill.

Some fans are concerned about Henry's apparent drop-off in his first game, as he struggled to break off many big runs in the game while the Ravens' offensive line had struggled to create holes for him to exploit.

But his head coach was not at all worried, but did have some words that might anger some fantasy teams who drafted Henry early - insinuating he will not be the Ravens workhorse back throughout the year.

Harbaugh said: "We didn’t bring Derrick in here to be the guy that gets the ball 30 times a game. He’s done that before. That’s really not the plan. The plan is Derrick, Lamar, Mark, Isaiah, Zay, Bate, Nelly. That’s kind of the plan in this offense going forward.

"I think that evaluation will be best made over the course of the season and I am very confident that there will be games that Derrick will go for over 100 yards. We want to be unpredictable in that way, and see where the game takes us."

While Henry had struggled, Jackson certainly did not in their season opener, with almost 400 yards of total offense including a touchdown and no interceptions.

The quarterback has slimmed down this season while looking to use his legs as a rushing threat, with Baltimore already showing their intent to use both Jackson and Henry in read option runs - which they'll be expected to continue to go to throughout the season.
