Boomer: Titans will be much tougher test for Jets than many believe

The Jets were outclassed by the 49ers, a trendy Super Bowl pick, on Monday night to begin what is expected to be a successful season for New York.

Now, the Titans await, a team that coughed up a big lead against rookie Caleb Williams and the Bears on Sunday afternoon. Many see Tennessee as a necessary softer landing spot for the Jets, who are looking to get in the win column and capitalize on a softer early portion of the schedule now that the Niners are in the rearview mirror.

But Boomer Esiason warns that the Titans, even with a faulty quarterback in Will Levis, will not be a cakewalk by any means.

“The Titans spent almost $300 million on their roster in the offseason,” Boomer said. “The biggest difference between the Titans and 49ers is going to be the offense they put out there...the defense has to get turnovers if they’re going to win this game.”

The Jets defense did not get the turnovers needed to win on Monday night, or to even stay competitive, and Boomer says that will have to change this Sunday, as the offense is still settling in with Aaron Rodgers under center, and the Titans defense is more than capable of keeping that offense grounded for another week.

“The Titans defense is not going to be easy...they’re better than you think they are,” Boomer said. “They put a lot of money into their roster. They have cover corners and pass rushers. It’s not going to be an easy game whatsoever. If you think this is one of those mail-it-in games, you’ve got another thing coming to you.”
