AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson had notable rivalries with John Cena, AJ Styles, Triple H, and CM Punk during his time in WWE. Danielson has engaged in classic matches with John Cena, Triple H, and CM Punk throughout his WWE career. Recently, he discussed the former AEW World Champion, CM Punk.

Both Punk and Danielson were in AEW for two years. The former made his debut on the August 20, 2021, edition of AEW Rampage, while Bryan Danielson debuted shortly after, appearing at the end of All Out to confront The Elite.

Their history goes back to WWE in 2012 when they engaged in a major feud. During this time, Danielson pursued CM Punk’s WWE Championship. The rivalry became even more complex with the involvement of AJ Lee and Kane. This feud is still remembered as one of the most compelling storylines.

Despite Punk’s departure from WWE in 2014 and Bryan Danielson’s exit in 2021, both stars reunited in AEW, where they never had the opportunity to reignite their storied rivalry inside the ring.

Bryan Danielson on not getting to work with CM Punk in AEW

AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson recently appeared in the Inside The Ropes interview. During the conversation, he was asked about not having a match with CM Punk in AEW. Danielson expressed that it was something he had expected to happen but didn’t. He reflected on how it would have been a great and enjoyable experience for him. He stated, “Sad isn’t the right word. It was something that I thought was going to happen that didn’t happen. So it’s like, it would’ve been really cool and really fun for me.”

The reason for not booking a match between Danielson and Punk remains unclear. However, Punk’s tenure in AEW was brief, spanning from 2021 to 2023. He was terminated from the promotion in September 2023 following a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at AEW All In.
