Seattle Seahawks linked to former All-Pro cornerback as a potential NFL free agent target

The Seattle Seahawks looked pretty sharp in their 2024 NFL season opener against the Denver Broncos. Aside from some issues in pass protection in the first half for the interior offensive line, every unit played well and the final score (26-20) doesn't do justice to how well they performed compared to their opponents.

One possible weakness that they might want to address in the coming weeks is their depth at cornerback, which is a little thin right now in the slot with Artie Burns not at 100% and Coby Bryant being the next-man-up behind star Devon Witherspoon . If Spoon should get injured, the nickel spot could become a serious liability. That's why Bleacher Report has identified former All-Pro corner Desmond King as a potential free agent target.

Bleacher Report on Seahawks and Desmond King

"The Seahawks are a little thin at cornerback and could use another player who can cover the slot in case Devon Witherspoon goes down. That's what makes King a good fit as he's built a seven-year career as a nickelback and is coming off a season where he earned a 76.3 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus."

King does make sense and the Seahawks certainly have enough room to add him as well as making another splash in free agency if they're in the mood for it. Yesterday the team restructured the contract of wide receiver DK Metcalf, freeing up a little over $9 million in salary cap space for the 2024 season.

However, if they're going to make any moves right now it will have to be intended to help their offensive line. Right tackle is currently the most glaring weakness on the 53-man roster in the wake of George Fant's injury. Until they can either sign or trade for somebody better, Stone Forsythe is slated to continue playing at this spot.
