Longtime ESPN figures enter Hall of Fame

On Tuesday, two longtime ESPN personalities were named among the list of 10 influential figures in sports broadcasting that make up the Class of 2024 into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

ESPN PR shared that news on X/Twitter Tuesday. There, they noted that longtime NBA analyst Hubie Brown and late NFL reporter Chris Mortensen will join Mark Lazarus , Bryant Gumbel , Andrea Kremer , Tommy Roy , Phil Garvin , Steve Gorsuch , Charlie Carlucci , and Jim Delaney to make up the Class of 2024 that will be inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame on December 17th.

Brown is of course remembered by many for his NBA coaching career that spanned just under two decades, resulting in being named the NBA Coach of the Year twice. But for as great of an NBA coaching career he had, he perhaps had an even better broadcasting career. That came across several networks, including CBS, TNT, and finally ESPN.

Meanwhile, Mortensen served as ESPN’s first NFL insider, joining the network in 1991 before ultimately departing in 2023 due to health problems related to throat cancer. Mortensen passed away in March, which sparked an outpouring of tributes by countless colleagues of his at the network.

It’s undeniable how much both Mortensen and Brown, along with the others named to the 2024 Hall of Fame Class, have done for the broadcasting industry as a whole. And Ken Aagaard, Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame Chairman, shared these exact sentiments in a statement about the class.

“We’re excited and looking forward to another wonderful evening on December 17 when we get together and celebrate these exceptional leaders, their contributions, and their legacy.”
