Convicted Felon Arrested After Fisheries Inspection Uncovers Firearm, Warrants in Broward County

A routine fisheries inspection by officers Comartin and Rigali on the 17th St. Causeway Bridge led to the arrest of a convicted felon. According to the most recent Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) law enforcement report, the officers discovered the individual in possession of a dead porkfish and, upon checking his identity, learned he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

When Officer Rigali attempted to detain the subject, the man resisted and tried to flee on foot. Officers stopped him, and a search revealed the subject was carrying a handgun. Further investigation showed the man had multiple felony convictions across several states.

The subject, who was not named in the report, was arrested on multiple charges, including 11 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, and possession of dead marine life. He was transported to the Broward County jail.
