Daredevil: Born Again: Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Role Rumored To Increase in Season 2

Rumors suggest Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle / Punisher will have an expanded role in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again . It was previously revealed that the Punisher would be part of the first season of the series. Then, in August 2024, Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again would receive a second season.

New rumor teases a bigger role for Jon Bernthal in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

During a Q&A session with questions from the members of The Cosmic Circus Discord , industry scooper Alex Perez claimed the Punisher would feature more prominently in Season 2 than in Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again.

The scooper stated that the Punisher and the supervillain Bullseye will “show up in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.” Perez then elaborated, “But as I understand it, Punisher’s role will be explored more in the 2nd season than the first because the show feels more like a setup for his story to continue in the next season from what was described to me.”

According to Perez, Marvel sees Daredevil as a “gateway” to explore stories about various other “street superheroes.” Perez stated, “In terms of interactions, we can expect, of course, the long-awaited team-up between Spider-Man and Daredevil. I’ve also heard of some ideas down the road for Daredevil to encounter other heroes, particularly Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight and Florence Pugh’s Black Widow. However, those are still just ideas down the road for different projects,” he added.

If all these rumors are true, Daredevil and the Punisher could potentially be a part of Marvel Studios’ long-term plans. Bernthal’s Punisher debuted in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil (2015-2018). He then led his own show, which aired for two seasons between 2017 and 2019. In a January 2024 interview with Collider , Bernthal reflected on why the character was so important to fans.

“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has,” said Bernthal. “In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply. I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”

Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere in March 2025.
