The Groesbeck Ex-Students Association announced Rigo and Flor Lopez as Mr. and Mrs. Homecoming for 2024 on Friday, Sept. 6. The couple, who were high school sweethearts, have been deeply involved in the Groesbeck community since their days at Groesbeck High School.
Rigo and Flor Lopez's love story began in 1992 during their freshman year at Groesbeck High School. Flor, a lifelong resident of Groesbeck, and Rigo's love for each other and their school continued to flourish throughout their high school years. They both graduated with the class of 1996, a year when the basketball team clinched the state championship, making it a memorable year for the couple and the entire community.
Following their high school graduation, Rigo and Flor tied the knot and remained committed to their involvement in the Limestone County community. Flor has dedicated the majority of her career to serving as a Spanish teacher at Groesbeck High School for 15 years and has recently taken on the role of district ESL coordinator. Her impact on the lives of numerous students has been profound, and she has cherished the opportunity to be a part of their academic journeys within Groesbeck ISD.
The couple raised their three children in Groesbeck, all of whom are proud alumni of Groesbeck High School. Remarkably, two of their daughters have followed in their mother’s footsteps and graduated as teachers in 2022, returning to Groesbeck to begin their careers within the school district.
Rigo and Flor Lopez are known for their strong commitment to the community, regularly contributing their time to volunteer work by offering free Bible studies. Their dedication to serving others has left a lasting impact on the Groesbeck community, where they are esteemed for their generous contributions and unwavering support.
The Groesbeck community looks forward to honoring Rigo and Flor Lopez at the pregame ceremonies on Friday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. This event serves as a fitting tribute to the couple's enduring commitment to Groesbeck and their embodiment of the school's spirit and values.
