CHARMCO- Greenbrier West multi-sport athlete Maddie Fields ended her recruitment this past weekend when she announced her verbal commitment to the WVU Potomac State softball program.

The Catamounts recently hired new head coach Chris Greise back in July and Fields found that he and his staff, and the school’s history was enough for her to pull the trigger.

“There were several factors that played into my decision to choose WVU Potomac State. They have a very accomplished softball program. They have several NJCAA All American players and they’ve made it to the NJCAA Division II World Series and have had some stellar season records. The part I really liked was the coaching staff and the players. They made me feel welcome and like I could be a big part of their future success. I liked the campus, cost, and class sizes,” Fields explained.

With her commitment out of the way and expectations for a special senior athletic year approaching, Fields says there are positives to getting this decision out of the way, but at the same time, she still has to perform her best.

“I feel like some of the pressure is off and I found a program that feels like home. The coaches at Potomac State still need to see that I’m focused and working hard at becoming the best student athlete I can be. I know this year will be one for the books. I see great things ahead for myself and my teammates. We have a great chance of making it to states this year in basketball and softball. I’m excited to be on that journey with my friends and teammates and feel like I can be more focused on helping my team get there now that some of the pressure is off to find my next step after high school,” Fields concluded.

Other schools involved with Fields were West Virginia Tech, West Virginia Wesleyan, Roanoke College, Salem University, Patrick Henry, Mary Baldwin University, and Surry Community College.
