Bridgerton Season 4 star Yerin Ha (Halo), who has been recently cast as the newest female lead of the hit Netflix series’ next installment, finally opened up about her casting as Sophie Baek. Her character is being described as a resourceful young woman “who has been forced to spend much of her life working as a maid for the most demanding employer in the ton.”

In a recent interview, Ha shared how much she appreciates showrunner Jess Brownell for changing the original character’s name, Sophie Beckett, to Sophie Baek in honor of her South Korean heritage. Because of this change, she felt more connected with her character.

“A name is the first bit of identity that you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” Ha said (via Tudum). “To make Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit to Jess Brownell, our showrunner.”

She added, “It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold. It’s amazing what it can do just in a psychological sense. So it means a lot that Jess did that for me.”

Who is involved in Bridgerton Season 4?

Based on Julia Quinn’s bestselling novel series, Bridgerton is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and showrunner Jess Brownell. It also currently stars Luke Thompson as Benedict, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope, Luke Newton as Colin, Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Jonathan Bailey as Anthony, Claudia Jessie as Eloise, Hannah Dodd as Francesca, Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Polly Walker as Lady Featherington, Bessie Carter as Prudence, Simone Ashley as Kate, Florence Hunt as Hyacinth, Will Tilston as Gregory, Harriet Cains as Philippa, and Jessica Madsen as Cressida Cowper, with Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.

The official logline for Season 4 reads, “The new installment turns its focus to bohemian second son Benedict. Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
