Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season brought some tremendous recognition for the Ohio State Buckeyes. After producing a string of high-end first-round talents, the Buckeyes haven't been able to unearth a star at the EDGE position in a few years. Nevertheless, the Buckeyes produced three of the top six pass-rushers in ESPN's win rate metric.

Two of the names won't surprise you. But, the top-rated player with the best win rate will. Let's dive in.

Week 1's top overall pass rusher was Jonathon Cooper. Cooper, a seventh-round pick in the 2021 draft, has been a better pro with Denver than he was in college with the Buckeyes. He has 15 career sacks and notched two in Week 1.

Cooper had 10 sacks over five seasons with the Buckeyes in college. He led all defenders with a 50% pass rush win rate. Though his sample size was small and not double-teamed, he was essentially a super-subpackage star.

In fourth place was Chase Young. Unlike Cooper, Young was heavily double-teamed. No other player listed was doubled as often as Young, at an astonishing 32%. Despite this, he won 43% of his 14 rushes. He didn't notch a sack but hit the quarterback twice.

Young hasn't quite reached his potential coming out of Ohio State, but injuries have also taken a clear toll. He's still a quality pass-rusher, though, and this effort reinforces his value.

Finally, there's perennial All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year candidate Nick Bosa rounding out the top six. Bosa won four of his 12 qualifying plays and was double-teamed on 17% of his snaps. Obviously, he draws a ton of eyes and hands and creates high-impact plays.

Are the Buckeyes pass-rusher university now? Maybe not, as they've had a slow spell in recent years. The Bosa brothers, Young, Cooper, and Baron Browning headline the edge producers from the program, with Zach Harrison and a few others still looking to find consistent roles.

However, even in lieu of a title like that, the Buckeyes were well-represented this past week. With Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau entering the NFL in 2025, it bodes well that the Buckeyes are trending upward in representation.
