The blows keep on coming for the Cleveland Browns from the aftermath of the lopsided loss against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

Cleveland announced that they have placed four players on the injured reserve, amongst other roster moves. Starting safety Juan Thornhill (calf), linebacker Mohamoud Diabate (hip), linebacker Tony Fields II (ankle), and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (ankle) all have to miss at least four games.

With that, the Browns have signed wide receiver David Bell, cornerback Mike Ford Jr., linebacker Khaleke Hudson, and defensive tackle Sam Kamara to the active roster.

Additionally, the Browns are bringing back former third-round pick defensive tackle Siaki Ika to the practice squad along with tight end Geoff Swaim and linebacker Luiji Vilain.

The most important thing here could be that tight end David Njoku’s ankle injury did not land him on the injured reserve , meaning he likely isn’t missing any more than three games. Njoku’s injury is the reason the Browns signed Swaim.

After missing six games last year in large part due to a calf injury, Thornhill is again going to miss time this year with a calf injury. Since the Browns signed Thornhill two years ago, things have not gone as expected. With the veteran safety out, the Browns are going to call on the well-experienced Rodney McLeod a lot more.

Hurst being out will allow players like Shelby Harris and Quinton Jefferson to pair with Kamara to give Cleveland more depth inside. Losing two linebackers is tough, so the newly signed Hudson is going to have to play in Week 2 .

In 2023, the Browns dealt with so many injuries and had to work their way through all of it. The 2024 season is not off to a promising start on the injury front and it has to at least be concerning.
