Brooks Koepka set to venture away from LIV Golf and reunite with Rory McIlroy

Brooks Koepka has announced he will be returning to the DP World Tour next month , after the LIV Golf star opted to commit to playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Aside from a handful of starts across the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour in recent years, Koepka's commitments have been solely with LIV, having signed on the dotted line with the Saudi-funded league back in 2022. In the aftermath Koepka was subsequently banned from competing on the PGA Tour .

This has of course meant he has been able to compete in any event on the American-based circuit since. When it comes to the DP World Tour, Koepka has also given up his membership, but is eligible to compete in Scotland via a sponsor invite.

He will tee it up at the event that kicks off on October 3 across three of Scotland's finest courses in the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links. "I've been fortunate to play in several Dunhill Links, as well as two Open Championships at St Andrews over the years, and these trips are always highlights to my year," he said in a statement.

Hailing his love for Scottish golf, and St Andrews in particular, Koepka went on: "I love Links golf and St Andrews is my favourite course in the world. I could play there every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it... The atmosphere on and off the course at the Dunhill is fantastic.

"I was able to play with my father one year and my good friend and caddie, Ricky Elliott, another. Those two weeks will always be very special to me." Five-time major champion Koepka joins a star-studded lineup in the Scottish event, with Rory McIlroy also on the entry list.

The big-hitting pair - who have found themselves on opposite sides of golf's recent political fallout - will reunite on the golf course twice in three months, with their first meet up coming at the Dunhill Links. Two months later, the pair will meet again in a PGA Tour vs LIV showdown that will see McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler take on Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau in Las Vegas.

When it comes to the trip to Scotland, Koepka is not the only member of the LIV setup in the field. He will be joined by Tyrrell Hatton, who has also committed to the event he has won twice previously in 2016 and 2017.

Hatton's return to the DP World Tour is an important one in his quest to keep hold of his DP World Tour membership and Ryder Cup eligibility. The Englishman is required to play four events before the end of the year, and has so far played in two at the Dubai Desert Classic and British Masters.

Hatton has also expressed his intent to compete at the Spanish Open at the end of September, as well as the Dunhill Links the week later with the hope of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship in November.
