Joel Klatt Unveils Which College Football Team Looks 'Elite'

After two weeks of the college football season, it's the time that people start distinguishing between "contenders" and "pretenders." However, the sample size is still too small to make definitive judgments about where teams will stand come November and December.

Nevertheless, some teams have demonstrated that they have the pieces in place and haven't missed a beat so far. On his podcast, " The Joel Klatt Show ," Joel Klatt said the Ohio State Buckeyes are one team to keep an eye on.

"Ohio State has outscored their opponents 108-6 and has yet to allow a touchdown," Klatt said. "You might be thinking, 'Joel, they haven’t played anybody.' That’s fine, but they did exactly what they were supposed to do against those teams. And you know who would take that right now? Notre Dame, Oregon, any of those teams."

"They are an elite team and a scary team," he later added.

Klatt also highlighted that Western Michigan, whom Ohio State defeated 56-0, was leading Wisconsin in the fourth quarter. Suggesting that Ohio State’s competition may not have been as weak as some critics claim.

With offensive coordinator Chip Kelly at the helm, Ohio State’s offense has embraced a more spread-out approach, with a strong emphasis on running the football. The Buckeyes' elite running back tandem of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson has been a key component of this strategy.

In addition to their potent running game, Ohio State boasts one of the best wide receiver trios in the country, and their defense, led by Caleb Downs —considered by many to be the best player in the nation—features numerous experienced returners, adding to its strength and depth.

The Buckeyes are poised to be a formidable challenge for any opponent. With national championship aspirations, anything less than a berth in the title game, including a potential victory over Michigan, could put Ryan Day’s job security in question.
