Man, 32, found dead on side of Long Island road, with gunshot wound to head: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 32-year-old man was found fatally shot in the head on the side of a road on Long Island, on Wednesday, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Officers responded to a call on Wayside Lane in Wantagh and discovered the victim from Amityville with a gunshot wound, lying near the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One neighbor, who witnessed the aftermath of the crime, described the discovery. “I was coming home from work around 12:15 p.m. when I saw legs sticking out from the side of the road,” the neighbor said. “I knew something bad had happened, so I called 911.”

The quiet suburban neighborhood was shaken. “It’s extremely scary,” another neighbor, a mother of five, said. “If I had been here just a couple of minutes earlier, I probably would have driven right into it. I haven’t been able to sleep since.”

Residents also reported that drug deals are known to occur on the street.

An investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
