Disney is Being Sued For Dead Actor CGI in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Disney has a legal challenge to contend with after using CGI to revive a dead actor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story .

The 2016 Star Wars film features the likeness of actor Peter Cushing, who plays high-ranking Imperial Grand Moff Tarkin. Since Cushing died in 1994, 22 years before Rogue One , Disney uses CGI to capture his likeness. By putting his face on body double actor Guy Henry, it essentially resurrected Cushing.

That, however, was apparently against the wishes of Cushing’s close friend, Kevin Francis. He’s now taken legal action against the Disney Group, claiming the actor had not agreed to have his appearance reproduced without his permission.

The challenge has been filed under the name Tyburn Film Productions, a London-based film company. The Disney Group attempted to have this claim thrown out by the High Court in London, but failed.

In other controversies, the Rogue One director addresses damaging rumors about reshoots.
