Matt Eberflus gives a strong message to a young play-maker who now has a big opportunity after being a healthy inactive

When the Chicago Bears released the Week 1 inactives list leading up to last Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans, a surprising name was included .

That player was second-year Tyler Scott, who was listed as a healthy inactive despite having a strong offseason. Ultimately, it came down to his value on special teams that kept him off the opening day roster.

But every week is a new opportunity and Scott will have a major one to capitalize on going into this weekend.

Following rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze's knee injury , the door is now open for Scott to prove himself as a potential weapon within the Bears offense and head coach Matt Eberflus had a strong message for the second-year weapon on Wednesday.

"Tyler Scott, just opportunity," Eberflus said . "You're looking for an opportunity, a crack in the door, because it was a strong receiving group that we feel that we have this year. And again, we've still got to prove it, but I would say opportunity. When that door opens, man, you take your opportunity and run with it."

Scott had a strong 2024 preseason where he hauled in a team-high seven receptions for 116 yards, nearly as many yards as he had during his entire rookie campaign.

Scott was expected to be the Bears fourth WR until the team signed Deandre Carter and kept him on the 53-man roster as the primary returner. Now the two will battle during the week to see who will fill in as the third WR in 11 personnel sets.

"It shouldn't be no challenge [mixing in other WRs], because we all rotated with [quarterback Caleb Williams]," DJ Moore explained on Wednesday. "Everybody in our receiver group did training camp. So I think [Williams has] got a feel for everybody and whoever's gonna be out here."

By working with different receivers since arriving in Chicago, rookie quarterback Caleb Williams was already prepared for certain guys potentially going down due to injury and being forced to throw to different pass catchers at any given moment.

"They're all different in their own aspects," Williams said . "That's why we have so many reps and things like that throughout training camp. We're gonna get a bunch of different guys today. Obviously, Keenan [Allen] is not practicing, so we're going to get reps with some other guys. Keep building that trust, belief, and bond, we've been building that since I got here. Make sure we're correcting small things that may affect us in games, whether it's a route depth, whether it's how to throw it, just adjusting to those guys."

Williams seemed to have a good rapport with Scott based on the big plays the two were able to make during the offseason against the team's stout defense.

We'll see if Scott can take advantage of these opportunities during the week and turn them into something that can help the offense get back on track against the Texans this weekend on Sunday Night Football.
