Netflix is calling all Pogue fans. Outer Banks is coming back for another season. This news is not new whatsoever. OBX Season 4 was officially announced just before the premiere of Season 3 in February 2023 at Poguelandia. Netflix finally released the OBX Season 4 Trailer to get the fans excited. Season 4 is going to be split into two parts. The first part is set to release on October 10, 2024. The second and final part will be released on November 7, 2024.
The End of Season 3
Seasons 1 and 2 of OBX were leading up to the end of season 3. Many side quests took place, but the end goal remained the same: the Pogues finding the gold. After several kidnappings and a few sacrificial deaths, they returned home triumphantly with the treasure. They brought home the Royal Merchant gold and the Cross of Santo Domingo. The town celebrated their victory by holding a ceremony to recognize them. At the end of the ceremony, an older gentleman approaches the Pogues. He asks them for help finding the log of a ship that belonged to Blackbeard. The OBX Season 4 trailer gives a glimpse into the new adventure they will embark on.
OBX Season 4 Trailer
The official OBX Season 4 trailer was released on Netflix on August 29, 2024, as a teaser. John B, played by Chase Stokes, narrates for half of the 45-second clip. It acknowledges the finding of the gold and the Pogues are seen living their best lives. After splitting the money from the gold, they did what they wanted. Pope could pay for school, and JJ even got his charter boat. However, things might change once they embark on this new treasure hunt.
OBX Season 4 Trailer emphasizes the adventure they will go on. It is expected to be bigger and better than all the other seasons. The Pogues will experience more action, more adventure, and more danger. Season 4 fast-forwards 18 months after the ending of season 3. It is expected to go back in time to fill in the gaps between being offered a new treasure hunt and beginning the hunt. During those 18 months, they tried to live like normal teens. However, they faced financial hardship that prompted them to accept the offer to search for Blackbeard's treasure.
Final Thoughts
Filming for OBX season 4 began in November 2023 in Wilmington, North Carolina. From there, they filmed overseas and eventually ended in Charleston, South Carolina, where the previous seasons were filmed. The filming wrapped up in June 2024, and the cast announced it to all their fans on social media. Their announcement was the original teaser before the OBX Season 4 trailer.
Season 4 is a fresh start for the series. Josh Pate told Tulum, "We think about the first three [seasons] as a trilogy, and then we're starting over on [another sort of] trilogy now.” The creators of OBX also mentioned their original plan to go for 4-5 seasons is no longer. They have a vision for the ending but do not know how many seasons it will take to reach it. Josh Pate told Entertainment Weekly, “We're going to take it as long as we can, for sure." So, it seems like OBX fans are looking at another few seasons at least.
