Panthers fans are UNWELL. Of course, with today being the anniversary of 9/11, teams and companies across the country are posting tributes and paying homage to those we lost in the tragic terrorist attacks. It's always a somber day, and an important moment for us as Americans to come together and reflect on what happened and remember all of the innocent lives that were lost. The Carolina Panthers, like every other NFL team, took to their social media accounts to acknowledge the anniversary of 9/11, with a photo of Bank of America stadium in Charlotte during a pregame ceremony last season with the American flag stretched across the field. It included a simple caption:
"Never Forget 🇺🇸." And whoever runs the Instagram account definitely should've turned the comments off... they're WILD and way too far, but like I said in my previous post about the Panthers, the fans are down BAD. To quickly recap, over the weekend the Panthers lost to the New Orleans Saints, one of our NFC South division rivals, and made them look like Super Bowl contenders. The final score was 47-10, and quarterback Bryce Young had a QB rating of 32.8 after the game, the lowest of his short career thus far (this is second season in the NFL after a standout career with Alabama):
Oh, and in addition to an O line that looked like Swiss cheese and a defense that let the Saints score almost 50 points in the season opener, our best player, Pro Bowl DL Derrick Brown, suffered a season-ending knee injury. There were no signs of anything happening to him during the game, but the meniscus injury will require surgery, and he will miss the entire season. Yeah, I'm not one for voodoo or superstitions or anything like that, but it is really starting to feel like we're cursed:
And as you can probably imagine by this point in the post, frustrated fans let the team HAVE it in the comments section of that Instagram post, leaving some completely unhinged thoughts like the following: "This post is still not safe- every Sunday feels like I’m reliving 9/11." “'Sir, a second Saints WR has hit the end zone.'”
"Our towers been collapsing since 2017." "Never forget 9/8." "No way y'all left the comments on for this one." "This team makes me wish i was on those planes." "Saddam Hussein would be a better defensive coordinator." "Our situation is worser than there's." "Our 9/11 was this past Sunday." "Our 9/11 is every Sunday." "Leaving the comments turned on is absolutely diabolical." "David Tepper is a bigger threat to this country than Osama Bin Laden." "Never forget that embarrassing blow out on our first opening game." "This post is still not safe- every Sunday feels like I’m reliving 9/11."
"I’ll never forget when we was a good team‼️‼️" "RIP to all the lives that were lost, but please let’s play like we have common sense this Sunday." "What happened on Sunday was worse." "Your team is worse than this tragedy." "Whatever has happened inside Bank of America stadium the past 7 years is arguably worse than 9/11." "NEVER FORGET (You drafted Bryce Young instead of CJ Stroud)." "This team makes me want to jump off a tower." "Our football team is objectively worse for this nation than 9/11." "I have concrete proof Tepper was behind 9/11." And yeah... it goes on like that. Clearly, the comments are loaded with sarcasm, but it damn. That's insane... I tend to agree with the few comments like this:
"Guys I get we stink, but some things are bigger than football. Don’t be a jerk in these comments. Prayers to all who suffered on that day." "Guys, I love Carolina fan base to death and I know this is social media where comments are open to whosoever thoughts, but may we be mindful of truly what THIS day represents. We lost a lot of friends and family due to this terrible event. People are still feeling the impact of it. Just be respectful for one day and then start up again tomorrow. Much love and continual prayers for families and military who are stay suffering." Well said... and they still haven't turned the comments off. Things are bad in Charlotte, and it really only feels like it's going to get worse as the season goes on. Continue to pray for your Panthers fan friends, clearly there's a lot of unwell people in the Carolina's right now. https://www.instagram.com/p/C_x02lARohE/
