Incumbent U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R) and Kirsten Engel (D) running in the general election for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R) and Kirsten Engel (D) are running in the Nov. 5 general election for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District.

This election is a rematch from the 2022 general election in which Ciscomani defeated Engel 50.7%-49.2%. As of Sept. 3, The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter and Larry J. Sabato’s Crystal Ball rated the district as a Toss-up while Decision Desk HQ and The Hill and Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales rated the district as Lean or Tilt Republican.

Ciscomani was first elected to the U.S. in 2022. Ciscomani received an associate degree from Pima Community College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. Before running for Congress, Ciscomani worked as a vice president of outreach for the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a senior advisor for regional and international affairs for the Office of the Arizona Governor under former Gov. Doug Ducey (R), and as a vice chair of the Arizona-Mexico Commission.

Ciscomani says he will work with representatives in both parties to achieve policy outcomes. He said, “That’s been my approach in Congress: working with Republicans and Democrats to get results. More resources at the border, defending our seniors and our veterans, preserving our natural resources, and fighting the extremes. It’s why I was ranked Arizona’s most bipartisan member of Congress.” Ciscomani also says he supports policies that guarantee social security and Medicare for seniors and secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

Engel previously served in the Arizona Senate from Jan.-Sept. 2022 and in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2017-2021. Engel received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a J.D. from Northwestern University. She worked as a clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, as a law professor at Tulane University and the University of Arizona, and as an assistant attorney general for the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General.

On environmental issues, Engel said, “I’m prepared to tackle the water and climate crisis that threatens Southern Arizona’s future…I will fight for our fair share of the Colorado River while encouraging better management of our water across the West. I will fight for Arizona to continue becoming a clean energy leader – providing good-paying jobs and lower utility bills for Arizonans, and tangible progress in reducing the climate crisis.” Engel also says she supports policies that expand access to health care and increase access to abortion in Arizona.

Based on second quarter reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, Ciscomani raised $4.4 million and spent $1.8 million and Engel raised $4.4 million and spent $1.2 million. To review all the campaign finance figures in full detail, click here.
