Joe Buck's wife suffers freak injury

Joe Buck’s 5-handicap is good, but apparently not good enough to keep from accidentally sending a golf ball into his wife’s ankle.

Two weeks after Field Yates dislocated his shoulder while attempting a tackling drill to determine his fantasy football draft order, another member of ESPN’s NFL team suffered injury in a freak accident. Wednesday afternoon, Adam Schefter reported Michelle Beisner-Buck underwent surgery to repair an ankle injury caused by her husband, Joe Buck, accidentally driving a golf ball into it.

“More ESPN injury news,” Schefter posted on social media. “[Michelle Beisner] underwent surgery today to repair nerve damage in her fractured ankle that occurred during a freak accident when her husband Joe accidentally drove a golf ball into it, per sources. ‘Getting ready to roll back,’ Beisner-Buck texted.”

Are you even an amateur golfer if you haven’t accidentally hit someone off the tee? We’ve all done it. But while it’s one thing to accidentally hit your golf partner or bystander with a golf ball, it’s another when that person is also your spouse. And when that unruly drive sends your spouse in for surgery, well that just adds insult to injury.

Shortly after Schefter reported on the surgery, Buck posted a video on social media to offer more context on the accidental incident that he says occurred July 7 in Cabo San Lucas.

“Michelle has been known to do headstands during the course of our courtship in marriage,” Buck claimed. “She did a headstand at the end of the tee box for good luck out and to my left. And at the exact moment that I was teeing off, she decided with her feet in the air, to do the splits….right in my line of fire.”

As she was doing the splits, Buck proceeded to tee off and shattered her ankle. That’s the definition of a freak accident, but Buck still says his guilt is off the charts, adding that he wakes up in the middle of the night hearing the sound of that golf ball striking his wife’s ankle.

We hope Beisner-Buck recovers quickly. And we hope this freak golf accident doesn’t give Joe Buck the yips. Maybe just give him a little extra space next time he’s on the golf course, or at least refrain from doing a handstand and the splits while he’s teeing off.
