Washington vs Washington State Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

Just how good is Washington? The Jedd Fisch era hasn’t been too bad so far with easy wins over Weber State and Eastern Michigan, but now the competition and energy level ramps up to 100. The Big Ten season starts next week when Rutgers comes to Seattle, but first …

    Washington State.

Oregon State is getting its rivalry day shot against Oregon, and Wazzu can take all the snubbing and all the conference drama and all the disrespect, and ball it all up with one big win.

Technically - all due respect to Oregon State - this is the team’s last game this regular season against a Power Four program.

    Why Washington State Will Win

The offense has been terrific right away - even with Cam Ward now the star quarterback at Miami.

The passing game blew up against Portland State, and the ground game took over in the stunning win over Texas Tech with over 300 yards, almost 200 from QB John Mateer.

There’s only been one turnover in the two games, and the penalties have been minimal. The team is playing well, the downfield passing attack is the best in the nation so far averaging over 20 yards per grab, and again, so far Washington hasn’t been tested in any way.

The Huskies have been fine. They went through the motions in the first two games, and now …

    Why Washington Will Win

Is this when it all kicks in?

Washington fans used to the wild pyrotechnics of the Kalen DeBoer era might not find the Fisch regime quite as thrilling right away, but there should be more from the defense going forward.

This is still a bit of a reload, but other than a few special teams gaffes and too many penalties, almost everything has been fine. The pass rush has been great, there hasn’t been any real drama, and now the team should be more solid and steady than spectacular.

The Washington State style is decent at preventing sacks, but the offense hasn’t been pressured too much yet. The Washington defense should change that.

Washington vs Washington State: Who Will Win

Washington State will come out firing.

It’ll be the more jacked up team, the first quarter will be good, and the Husky crowd will be a tad uncomfortable.

The UW offense will slowly work its way back into the game, the defense will settle in, and Fisch will get the rivalry win he needs early on.

By the way, Fisch’s 2023 Arizona team beat Wazzu 44-6.
