Fox’s Neil Cavuto Asks GOP Senator Why Trump Had an Underwhelming Debate: ‘What Do You Think Happened?’

Fox News host Neil Cavuto cited some unflattering press that former President Donald Trump received from conservative media after his debate performance on Tuesday night.

Trump turned in a whirlwind showing against Vice President Kamala Harris , who repeatedly baited him with great success . The former president repeated his lies about the 2020 election being rigged and regurgitated a conspiracy theory about migrants in Ohio abducting pets and eating them.

“The people that came in, they’re eating the cats,” he said. “They’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country. And it’s a shame.”

Many conservatives criticized Trump’s performance.

Appearing on Wednesday’s Your World on Fox News, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) was asked about Trump’s performance.

The conservative Wall Street Journal editorialized today that Harris ‘won the debate because she came in with a strategy to taunt and goad Mr. Trump into diving down rabbit holes of personal and vanity that left her policies and history largely untouched.’ What they seem to be saying is it always takes the bait and Ms Harris set the trap. What do you think of that?”

“Well, I mean, these debates are kind of an artificial construct,” Cornyn said. “You have two minutes to talk and basically what she did was attack, attack, attack, and try to put President Trump on the defense.”

“But he did so well in the opposite way against Joe Biden,” Cavuto replied. “That guy was sharp as a tack and ready with answers. But he wasn’t here. What do you think happened?”

“Well, she was loaded for bear,” the senator responded. “There’s no question about it. But I don’t think that she persuaded any Trump voters to vote for her, and I don’t think President Trump persuaded any Harris voters to vote for him. So, think it was pretty much a stalemate myself.”

A CNN flash poll conducted after the debate showed that 63% of viewers believe Harris won the debate.
