Will Commanders Trade Former 1st-Round Draft Pick?

Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters have no qualms with trading away Ron Rivera era pieces. They’ve already made two such trades in the last few weeks.

On Sunday, during a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, last year’s first round pick, cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr, was not good at all. He gave up three completions on the three passes thrown his way.

He’s been on a short leash, so could he be a potential trade candidate? Bleacher Report believes he will.

They release an article on Wednesday that named the Cleveland Browns as a potential suitor.

“The Commanders made Forbes the 16th overall pick in last year’s draft, but the second-year corner may already need a new home to thrive,” B/R writes. “Forbes struggled mightily as a rookie, allowing an opposing passer rating of 103.0 in coverage.

“This season was supposed to bring the 23-year-old a fresh opportunity, but it doesn’t feel as if Washington’s new regime truly believes in him.”

Forbes doesn’t fit the prototypical Dan Quinn cornerback standard. He likes bigger, stronger, faster cornerbacks.

    Think, Richard Sherman.

“After being called for two penalties on the same play in Week 1, Forbes was pulled from the lineup. Twice.” B/R continues. “At this point, it might be best for the Commanders to find another starting corner and see what they can get for Forbes in a trade—although his health could complicate matters.”

If the Commanders can unload Forbes, maybe they will give J.C. Jackson or Patrick Peterson a look. Even at 34, Peterson is still a better option than Forbes.

The Commanders have to figure out their secondary fast, or their offense better start scoring a lot of points.
