WNBA MVP front-runner A'ja Wilson scored 27 points in the Aces' 86-75 win over the Fever on Wednesday night, breaking Jewell Loyd's single-season scoring record in the process.

Despite a slow start, Las Vegas pulled ahead of Indiana in the second quarter and never looked back. Wilson notched in a double-double on her historic night, pulling in 12 boards. Alysha Clark and Tiffany Hayes played big roles in the victory off the bench, combining for 26 points and 7-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.

Defensively, the Aces held rookie phenom Caitlin Clark to her lowest point total in a game since the two teams last faced off on July 2, when she scored 13 points. She also had her worst game from 3-point range in the WNBA, hitting just one shot in 10 attempts from downtown.

Still, even though Clark's 16 tonight were not enough to propel the Fever to a win, she dished out six assists and is now five away from the single-season record.

Kelsey Mitchell had a stellar performance despite the loss, pulling in 24 points. Nevertheless, the Fever were simply outplayed by the Aces, which scored 13 points off 14 turnovers. The two teams meet again this Friday back at Gainbridge in Indianapolis to round out the season series.

8:30 p.m. — Hammon is irate on the sideline after Gray's score—Gray was fouled by Boston on the play which the Fever challenged. The call stood, but the officials did not let the Aces inbound the ball. She receives a technical, her fifth of the season.

8:28 p.m. — Wilson scores her 16th point of the night to maintain the Aces lead. She misses a free throw after being fouled by Boston on the play, then Gray makes a layup on the next possession. Las Vegas is up 61-52 with just over a minute to go in the quarter.

8:07 p.m. — Mitchell can't miss! She hits her second three of the game before Young drives in a layup on the other end. Smith then makes a field goal to pull the Fever within six before Gray is fouled and hits both free throws.

7:48 p.m. — WILSON DOES IT! The two-time MVP hits a 17-foot pullup jump shot to cement herself as the WNBA's single-season scoring record holder. 7:31 p.m. — Mitchell keeps things alive for the Fever with a floater assisted by Boston. Clark, with three assists, is eight away from tying the single-season record. Wilson then misses another shot, having only made 4-of-11 attempts on the night, before an official timeout with 5:34 remaining in the half. Aces lead 30-23.

7:29 p.m. — With only one starter on the floor in Gray, Las Vegas is dominating the second frame. Gray hits a layup and Alysha Clark adds a three to increase the margin to nine. Wilson then re-enters for the Aces with one point separating her and the single-season scoring record.

7:27 p.m. — Hayes is fouled and makes 1-of-2 shots from the stripe before assisting Gray on another field goal. Then, Clark hits her first three of the game to keep the deficit at four, 25-21 Aces with just under eight minutes remaining in the half.

7:25 p.m. — Wilson takes a seat on the bench to start the second frame as Gray enters the game. Gustafson starts off the quarter with a driving layup assisted by Hayes to put the Aces up four.

7:12 p.m. — Wilson has scored the first eight points for Las Vegas and is looking like she will set the record before halftime. Mitchell hits a three for Indiana and Clark adds a field goal, though, keeping the Fever in front 12-8 with just under five minutes remaining.

7:10 p.m. — The Aces finally get a point on the board thanks to Wilson after going 0-7 through the first three minutes of play. The center hits another jumper shortly after to shave the deficit to three, and Wilson is only seven points away from the single-season scoring record.

7:06 p.m. — Plum attempts a three after the break but misses and Clark grabs the board. Boston receives a pass from Mitchell at the other end and nails a field goal to extend the Fever's lead to seven.

7:03 p.m. — Boston wins the tip and Clark takes possession. Mitchell starts things off with a short jumper and Hull follows that up with a triple assisted by Clark, boosting her 3-point percentage over 70%. The Aces take a timeout with 9:24 to go in the first as the Fever lead 5-0.

7 p.m. — It's time for tip! Tonight's matchup should get underway any minute.

    Pregame

6:50 p.m. — Starting lineups have been announced for both teams. Indiana's first five remains unchanged from their prior matchup against the Dream, with Clark, Mitchell, Hull, Boston and Smith set to take the court. Wilson is back in the Aces starting core, alongside Gray, Plum, Young and Stokes. Ten minutes to go before tipoff.

6:40 p.m. — BetMGM has the Aces as 4.5-point favorites over the Fever . Las Vegas has won both matchups this season by 19 points each, dominating Indiana so far. There are two opportunities this week for Clark & Co. to even the score before the postseason.

6:20 p.m. — While she's already on the court warming up , some are commenting that Wilson appears to have a very slight limp in her arrival video to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It's only a matter of time before we discover how the ankle injury affects her play.

6:10 p.m. — Clark and former Iowa teammate Martin reunited during warm ups, and as Clark walked away she turned to Martin and said "When you get in come guard me." Looks like we might be in for some Hawkeye-on-Hawkeye crime tonight.

5:55 p.m. — Although Wilson was not included on the Aces injury report for tonight's game, it was still undetermined whether she would see the court. However, head coach Becky Hammon confirmed that the center will be good to go tonight though her minutes will be monitored.

5:45 p.m. — Both Wilson and Clark are on the brink of historic milestones tonight. The rookie guard needs 11 assists and the two-time MVP needs 11 points for each to become the single-season leaders in their respective stat categories. Keep an eye on both of their performances throughout the game.
