49ers superstar 'long-shot' for Week 2 but did receive great update

The San Francisco 49ers were without the services of one of the top offensive players in football for their Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets.

San Francisco took on the new-look Jets without the services of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey as he has dealt with a calf/Achilles injury. McCaffrey is dealing with Achilles tendinitis which has put his availability for Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings in question.

McCaffrey is a "long-shot" to play against the Vikings but likely won't be placed on the Injured Reserve, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"From 'Good Morning Football:' 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (Achilles/calf) feels like a long-shot for Sunday against the Vikings," Rapoport said. "Kyle Shanahan tells reporters that Christian McCaffrey will be limited today in practice, which is better than a DNP. Also says he’s not considered a candidate for IR."

The fact that McCaffrey won't be placed on the Injured Reserve certainly is a great sign that this ailment is nothing more than a short-term injury. If the 49ers thought it would take more than four weeks to heal, they would've placed him on the Injured Reserve.

McCaffrey is one of the most important offensive players in football and has dealt with a plethora of injuries. He will play a significant role in the 49ers' chances to win the Super Bowl this season and it's not too surprising that they are being cautious with their biggest star.

If he is not able to go Week 2 against the Vikings, hopefully, he'll be clear and ready for action for Week 3.
