A GDC K-9 Special Agent and a deputy with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office recently thwarted a planned contraband drop at Johnson State Prison.

According to a social media post on the JCSO Facebook page, GDC K-9 Special Agent Wiggins and JCSO Deputy Ivey seized 2,070 grams of loose leaf tobacco and cellphones intended for sale or use inside the state institution.

Officials noted that the package was “among many others that have been flown in by drone or carried in by foot and thrown over the exterior fence.”

Shortly after the post, GDC officials stated, “We appreciate the partnership with our local law enforcement agencies who help keep contraband out of the hands of offenders.”

Contraband arrests at Georgia prisons occur monthly. Last month, there were 9 arrests for contraband attempts, including 8 civilians and 1 officer. The contraband seized in these arrests included cell phones, gift cards, phone chargers, cigarettes, a drone, drugs, vapes, and more.
