In CBS Sports' latest 2025 NFL mock draft , five quarterbacks were projected in the first round.

What comes as a surprise to many is Texas' Quinn Ewers and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders were not included in that bunch. Miami's Cam Ward, who has had a fantastic start to the 2024 season, was the first signal-caller taken off the board at No. 2 overall to the Carolina Panthers.

USC's Miller Moss, Georgia's Carson Beck, Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart, and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier were other quarterbacks included in CBS Sports' Chris Trapasso's first-round projection.

If Ewers proves he can consistently perform at a high level throughout the season, Trapasso believes he will find himself in the first round next April.

"I want to see more individual high-caliber play from him after not viewing him as a first-round caliber prospect before he decided to stay in school after the 2023 season," Trapasso said.

"There were a few nice throws, namely early, against Michigan. But Steve Sarkisian's scheme has provided ample throwing lanes and open targets for Ewers entering the third week of the college season. There's no denying Ewers' natural talent, though, and if his steady play continues, he can cement himself as a first-rounder next April."

Through two games this season, Ewers has thrown for 506 yards and six touchdowns. He has notably improved his footwork from last season and appears confident and decisive in the pocket.

Ewers was recently named Joel Klatt's early Heisman favorite and will look to prove his consistency in Week 3 against UTSA at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
